Michael Ratner Community Service Scholarship
The Michael Ratner Community Service Scholarship provides two $500 awards given to graduating high school seniors who will be continuing their education at any post-secondary school (e.g., college, vocational or technical) and is committed to providing community service to a Jewish related organization (e.g., Hillel, Jewish Community Center, synagogue, etc.) for at least one semester during their freshman year.
The applicant must have a demonstrated record of community service, such as involvement in school activities, civic activities, or service to an organization. The Scholarship is open to any applicant who is related to a current Temple Beth Israel member, including children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, etc. The applicant does not have to live in Clinton County.
The Scholarship can be used for any post-secondary expenses, including tuition, books, computing equipment, supplies and transportation.
Application deadline: 15 June 2025. Awards will be made by 1 July 2025.

A Brief Essay: This essay should detail your community service during your high school years and address its impact on your development. Please indicate how you expect to fulfill the requirement of providing community service to a Jewish institution or organization during your freshman year.

Reference Letter: Please attach a reference letter (the letter can be someone who oversaw your
community service, or a guidance counselor, or a teacher) that addresses 1) your participation and accomplishments in community service and 2) the potential for you to fulfill the obligations of this community service scholarship.

As part of the application process, a Zoom interview with the Ratner Service Scholarship Selection Committee will be scheduled if your application is selected.
